You want to deliver consistent, quality care. To help, we built several complementary features that can be used together or separately — two of which are Reliability Score and Ratings — so you can see (at a glance) how independent professionals have fulfilled their commitments and performed at other facilities while using our app.
However, a missing Reliability Score or Rating isn’t a warning sign. It simply means a professional hasn’t completed enough shifts via ShiftKey to calculate a Reliability Score, or other facilities are short on time to rate them. While it’s tempting to pass these professionals over, tapping them for shifts can pay off in the long run. Here’s why.
New-to-the-app professionals could bring a wealth of experience to your team
Nearly half (49%) of independent professionals using the ShiftKey app have 10 or more years of healthcare experience, including those new to the platform. There are a few reasons for this.
Nearly 3 out of 4 (71%) healthcare workers who use the ShiftKey app have caregiving responsibilities in the home. When those responsibilities conflict with the demands of traditional work, they need more flexibility to handle it all. A third of professionals who use the ShiftKey app say that if they couldn't work on their own terms, they wouldn't be able to continue working in the healthcare industry.
The majority of professionals on the app used our technology to return to the healthcare workforce. Over two-thirds (78%) of healthcare professionals credited the flexibility they found through the ShiftKey marketplace as a key factor in enabling their return to the healthcare workforce. The app enables professionals seeking to find ways to continue to use their skills while managing personal responsibilities.*

Giving these professionals a chance today builds your trusted network for tomorrow
Building a trusted network is critical for maintaining continuity and quality of care. Giving those new-to-the-app their first opportunity helps you build your network of reliable independent professionals, which is especially useful during periods of peak demand.

Having a sizable network of professionals you can count on grows the number of professionals you can Favorite, a key to filling shifts quickly on your terms. Facilities with 10 or more Favorites fill a whopping 34% more shifts than those that don’t have any. Plus, having lots of Favorite independent professionals will come in handy when you’re using Cancellation Recovery or Admin Assist: two tools that give you complete control over who fills shifts in your organization.
How trying out new-to-the-app professionals helps you build your trusted network:
- Independent professionals with high Reliability Scores are often in high demand, so they may be unavailable when you need them most.
- Newer independent professionals don’t have as many opportunities (yet!). That means you can discover them and build relationships with them before anyone else does.
- You could find your facility’s next go-to independent professional.
Three tips for engaging professionals new to ShiftKey
- Make it easy for them to succeed at your facility: Tell them where to park, and make sure they know what they need to know about your team and residents or patients.
- Give them a rating after their shift: Ratings and endorsements help professionals and facilities find each other, keeping the marketplace transparent and fair.
- Stay open-minded: Although the Reliability Score can help you vet independent professionals, it doesn’t tell the full story — especially for professionals who don’t have one yet.
Remember that professionals choose independent work for many reasons. That new-to-the-app professional could bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to your team. Next time you see an independent professional without a Reliability Score or a Rating, give them a shot. Then rate them and Favorite them if they’re a good fit.
